 Doha summit urges holistic approach to road designs.

Roads are the soul of urban fabric and the engines of modern economies. They are also, unfortunately, the cause of over a million worldwide deaths each year. Despite that shortcoming, they hold the key to transport us into the future.
 
The importance of road planning and design was underlined by delegates attending the third Annual Road Planning, Design and Construction Middle East summit in Doha.  

The three-day summit called for a safer and integrated approach to transport designs.

 Open day focus on BIM application.

National Computer Services (NCS) is undertaking the lead to assist and facilitate the implementation of advanced innovative working tools in Qatar’s construction industry.
 
In line with NCS’s continuing support for software solutions in architectural, engineering and construction sectors in Qatar, the company recently organized a BIM (building information modeling) Open Day in collaboration with Autodesk and HP.

BIM is a powerful, modern and an efficient way of design, construction and management of buildings and infrastructure.

 Liability for Accidents on Site.

In the unfortunate event that an employee is seriously injured or killed on-site, the employer is required pursuant to Article 108 of Law No (14) of 2004 ("Labour Law") to report the incident to both the police and the labour department at the Ministry of Labour ("Labour Department").  Depending on the severity of the injury, or in the event of death, the police may initiate an investigation into the events leading to the harm. 
 
In relation to medical care, according to Article 109 of the Labour Law, the employer is liable for payment of the employee's medical treatment.  During recuperation the employee is entitled to payment of his full salary for a period of 2 weeks, and then may receive a payment of half his salary for a further 4 weeks.  The employee will not be entitled to salary payments where his recuperation extends beyond 4 weeks.  If after 12 weeks a physician confirms that the employee is not able to return to work, then the employer may terminate the employee's service
